Audio Interview with a Recovered Patient |
The 50 minute interview you are about to hear was preceded by the moving email posted below which I received from Kim Bistrong; she turned out to be a very talented and passionate interviewer, highly sensitive and informed about the implications of eating disorders as they interface in relationships between children and parents.
Hello Abigail My name is Kim and I am writing to let you know how much I appreciate your work. Your book, website, personal story -- all of it -- a breath of fresh air for me! As a recovering anorexic I can really see how your work is helping people to cope with the effects of anorexia and bulimia both on the suffering individual and on those closest to them. Unfortunately I was suffering for 12 years before I found the help I needed. This period was probably longer than it should have been- because of the inability of those close to me - particularly my mother - to understand and respond to my needs. It is so important to find ways to sustain and even rebuild the tremendously fragile relationship between mother and daughter during this trying time.
